The Olds Image Seekers Photography Club started its show and sale last week at the Mountain View Museum.
“We have nine amateur photographers taking part in our show this time around,” said Veronica Reist, Olds Image Seekers Photography Club member.
“Artists are selling their pictures at this show and they will be giving back 10 per cent of their sale to the Mountain View Museum. It's a win-win situation for both.”
The pictures are located in the gallery space of the museum. The Olds Historical Society has made this space available on a monthly basis to community groups that want to showcase their art.
“With us being a new group, we thought it would be a great way to expose, to let people know there is a photography club in our community, and that we have artists that are very talented,” said Reist.
“I was really blown away when we started getting photographers showing us the work that they were doing.”
The photography club was founded 14 months ago and now has 43 members.
“Basically, every photographer has a different type of style. Some of our photographers like abstract, some like landscape, some like nature close-ups,” said Reist.
“We have a lot of different types of photography. Some like to do night photography. That makes it interesting.”
Reist caught the photography bug eight years ago during a trip to Africa.
“I got my first digital camera and coming home from that vacation, I was absolutely hooked. Back then, I still was very busy and I didn't have time to focus so much on photography until the last five years,” she said.
“I decided to expand to a bigger camera. I have not looked back. I am just self-teaching myself.”
The club is currently on pause for the summer and will restart again in September.
The show and sale will remain at the museum until June 15.
