The Mountain View Film Group will present six movies during winter and spring 2012 at the Mayfair Cinema.

The season will start on Sunday, Jan. 8 with a showing of The Way, a 2010 movie chronicling a grieving father's journey on St. James Way, a Catholic pilgrimage road that leads to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain, where it is believed that the remains of the apostle Saint James are buried.

On Jan. 23, the Olds Kiwanis Club and the film group will hold a fundraiser for the Mountain View Museum with a presentation of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour at the TransCanada Theatre. The fundraiser will showcase a selection of outdoor adventure films screened at the festival in past years.

On Feb. 26, moviegoers will get the opportunity to see My Week with Marilyn, a dramatized version of the week Marilyn Monroe spent visiting Britain before filming The Prince and the Showgirl.

The March 4 session will be an occasion to watch a documentary produced by local resident Graham Nelson. Selah Vie tells the adventures of Mike and Joel, two life-long Calgary friends who decide to buy a sailboat after graduating from university and to go explore the Pacific Ocean. Their 14-month-long trip brings them to the U.S. West Coast, the Galapagos Islands and various Pacific islands before ending in New Zealand.

On March 25, the group will show Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, an adaptation of the famous John le CarrÈ espionage novel.

The season will conclude on April 29 with a presentation of The Iron Lady, a biopic in which Meryl Streep portrays the rise and fall of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

All shows, except the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, will be presented at 3 p.m. at the Mayfair Cinema. Movie tickets and passes can be purchased at the Mountain View Museum. Tickets for the museum fundraiser are available at the museum and online at www.oldskiwanis.tix.com.
