DIDSBURY - The Didsbury Museum celebrated its 40th anniversary in style on Sept. 22 with plenty of fun events during the day followed by an open house in the evening, which included speeches by members of the original board.
Frankie Kelly, past president of the museum and chair of the 40th anniversary committee, said the event was a wonderful celebration of all that had gone on in the last 40 years.
"I thought it was great," said Kelly. "It was about old friends getting together and having a few laughs. It was very successful. We started off the day with a magic show for children. That was great. The room was packed. The children and adults there all loved the show. We had crafts up in the schoolroom. They made farm animals out of paper plates because Didsbury started as an agricultural town and still is."
Kelly said the museum also had the model trains running as well as a remote control car track set up in the basement.
"The open house in the evening started with music," she said. "We had wonderful desserts. People came in and mingled. We had the MLA (Nathan Cooper) and Mayor Rhonda Hunter here. The highlight of the evening was we also had five people here from the original board from 1978: Willard Stauffer, Bruce Simpson, Ian and Arleen Douglas, and David Smith Sr. They talked about starting the museum and getting it going and building trust in the community so people would understand the importance of preserving your heritage."
