The Olds High School Drama Club is presenting The Music Man at the TransCanada Theatre.
Evening performances begin at 7 p.m. November 28 and 29 and December 5 and 6. Matinee performances begin at 2 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 7.
Olds High School drama teacher Rhonda West is the director and Wendy Durieux is the music director. There are 55 cast members and 25 crew for the production.
Production for the play started Sept. 1 and the students have spent many, many hours after school and on weekends to rehearse.
The high school art department, under the direction of Renu Mathew, has built and painted sets and props. The cosmetology department at the school is involved with makeup and hair for the cast.
The Music Man, by Meredith Wilson, first hit the stage as a Broadway musical in 1957.
Set in 1912, a travelling salesman, "Professor Hill," arrives in the fictional location of River City, Iowa.
Hill is a con man posing as a travelling band instructor. He convinces the townspeople that the new pool table in town is corrupting the young boys of the town and proposes to create a boys' marching band to keep them out of “trouble”.
He goes about collecting money for instruments, uniforms and music instruction. Just as he falls for Marian (the local librarian), the townspeople find out the truth about him.
