CARSTAIRS -- Inga Owens was both honoured and humbled when asked to display some of her extensive collection of quilts.
Owens has been quilting for many years and believes her interest in quilting comes partly from growing up on a homestead during the Great Depression, where nothing was ever put to waste, including bits of scrap.
Owens now quilts for a hobby and as a form of relaxation. She has donated several quilts to charities such as Ronald McDonald House and Quilts of Valour for wounded veterans.
"It's like giving a wounded veteran a hug," she said about the Quilts of Valour. "I've made nine Quilts of Valour. I've made 63 quilts for Ronald McDonald House and they vary in size from infants to teenagers."
Owens has donated several quilts to local raffles and has made 35 quilts for her family members.
"I feel quilting is a very calming activity," she said. "I really enjoy the peace, the quiet, the colours, and the fabric. For me, it's good for my soul."
Owens' exhibit is on now until March 29 and features 12 of her pieces.
