O-NET’s summer series of block parties has now ended and organizers are calling the effort a success.
Three free-to-attend Rock the Block Party events were scheduled this summer at various locations throughout the town.
“It was a way of connecting families in the community and just showing community members that O-NET is local and giving back to the community,” said Amy Smart, a marketing and communications specialist with the local high-speed Internet provider.
The kickoff event at Frank Wong Park earlier this summer was rained out but Smart said the July 21 event at Ecole Olds Elementary School “was fabulous” with about 150 people in attendance.
The Town of Olds came out in its Connecting Communities Trailer with fun activities, picnic tables and staff. A face painter and glitter tattoo artists were on hand. Members of Olds Elks Lodge #100 barbecued.
“We ran out of hotdogs and had to get more.”
The final event was Aug. 11 at Holy Trinity Catholic School playground.
“It was great to see many families walking, biking or scooting to our block party,” Smart said.
“We also had a great turnout with very positive feedback. This one was a little more smoky and more wasps, but the families still attended and played.”
