INNISFAIL – Song Sung Blue, Sweet Caroline and America.
Those are some of the songs Neil Diamond tribute artist Jason Scott may perform when he brings his show Diamond Forever: A Celebration of Neil Diamond, to the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion on Nov. 2.
The tribute show is a fundraiser for the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion.
“Diamond Forever: A Celebration of Neil Diamond works exclusively for Royal Canadian legions across Canada for almost 17 years now,” said Scott, noting some changes and improvements to the show over the years. “This version of the show is probably the most fun so far.”
Scott, an internationally renowned tribute artist, was born in Toronto and grew up in British Columbia. He will be making his Innisfail debut next month.
The Neil Diamond tribute show involves audience members and includes a dance contest, singalong songs and also provides some background stories on several of Diamond’s songs and information about Neil Diamond’s life.
“It’s very audience interactive. There’s lots of fun and lots of laughs,” he added.
Scott has performed for several causes over the years, such as epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease, and organized a show for the Red Cross in support of Fort McMurray fire victims.
“Performing the show for legions (in Canada) has been a rewarding experience for me,” he said, noting his own military upbringing. “I respect the organization. I come from a military family and the RCL has been in my family’s history for quite some time. It all started with Cpl. George Pritchard (my grandfather) who was in four wars.”
Scott has performed across Canada, the United States and in Mexico, and has been recognized for his work several times over, including earning a Reel Award in the pop and rock category at the Reel Awards Show in Las Vegas. Scott said the Reel Award is considered to be the Oscar of the tribute industry.
In addition, he appeared in a feature-length film, Diamond Mountain, that was filmed in 2015.
Scott said he wants people to come away from Diamond Forever: A Celebration of Neil Diamond with a memorable experience.
“My show is more of a Neil Diamond party,” said Scott. “Everybody really gets into it.
“(I want them) to know that they’ve had a really good time, they’ve really enjoyed themselves,” Scott concluded.
