Three of the four top artists who emerged victorious at last month's Art Battle in Olds will go on to the competition's regional event in Red Deer on July 4.
Cindy Boffey, Jim Brown and Amy Braun will go head-to-head with nine other artists from Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton at the Alberta Regional Art Battle Finals for the title of Alberta champion and a shot at the national championship.
The trio was part of a group of 12 artists who competed in the first-ever Art Battle in Olds on May 10 at the Olds Legion where Renu Mathew, an art teacher at Olds High School, was declared champion.
Mathew is unable to attend the regional battle.
Art Battle is a nationwide competitive painting event where artists have 20 minutes to create a piece and audience members vote on the best works.
Regional finals are being held in cities across the country and 20 artists will go on to the national championship in Toronto on July 26.
The Red Deer event will be held at Festival Hall at 4214 58 St. with doors opening at 7 p.m. and painting beginning at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $25 or $40 for VIP tickets.
