Hilary Lutz and Eva Green will be the two featured artists at the Olds Art Club show and sale, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday at the Bell e-Learning Centre.
While the two women have already been featured artists before, they still appreciate the opportunity to have the spotlight on their paintings.
Both Lutz and Green are longtime members of the club.
Lutz was born and raised in South Wales.
“The beauty and the ruggedness of the Welsh landscape inspired me to start painting,” she said.
After immigrating to Canada, she joined the Olds Art Club in the 1980s. She is now inspired by sunsets, maturing crops, winters, and the proximity of the Rocky Mountains, which she can see from her kitchen window every day.
“Now enjoying my grandma years, I am able to learn from my young critics,” said Lutz.
“I paint only when time allows.”
Her paintings have been displayed in Wales, Germany, France, and Canada.
Green was born and raised in northern Alberta on a small farm. Her father was an artist who specialized in woodcarving.
She first started dabbling with art after moving to B.C. with her husband and children.
“In the late 1960s, I did a lot of pencil work and pastel,” said Green.
She switched to painting after moving to the Cariboo region.
When most of her children ended up in Alberta, Green moved to Olds, where she joined the Olds Art Club.
“To date, I have sold my artwork in various parts of Canada, Europe, and South America,” she said.
“I still enjoy learning new techniques and I am quite comfortable applying them.”
Both artists enjoy their time spent with the club.
“I find the club very friendly. We all seem to help each other,” said Green.
“We usually have two sessions a month. An instructor comes in. If you forget your pencil, somebody will lend you one. It is also a lot of fun.”
