The TransCanada Theatre will be visited by up-and-coming country music star Dan Davidson as a part of Brett Kissel’s We Were That Song Tour Part II this Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
The performance won’t be the first time that Davidson has performed in Olds, as he once played here with his old rock band, Tupelo Honey.
“This will be my first country music show that I’ve played there,” said Davidson. “I’m pretty excited, with Brett (Kissel). It’s been fun because we get to play a lot of these smaller markets that don’t always get the big shows.”
Those who attend can expect interaction with the audience as well as smiles and good times from Davidson.
“My job is to get in there, get the party started, people on their feet, clapping and singing,” Davidson explained.
In the past year Davidson has had his single Found become one of the only independently released singles that went gold, which has been a big moment for him in his solo career.
“The highlight for me so far has been getting a gold record and getting an independent gold record is something that just doesn’t happen,” said Davidson.
Davidson has a strong history in music and the music industry as a whole. He grew up in a musical family, as his father played guitar, piano and sang.
“I think he always wanted to be a musician but back in the '70s I don’t think his mom was liking that,” Davidson said. “My grandma thought that meant drugs, I think.”
In high school, Davidson played in many rock and punk rock bands. Once he was out of high school he went into music school.
“I met a lot of key people in my life that I still play with today,” he said about his experience at music school.
The rock band he used to tour with -- Tupelo Honey -- had a fair bit of success with top 40 songs, a top five song on Much Music and toured with big artists like Bon Jovi.
Now Davidson has his eyes set on a solo tour.
“I’d really like to go out on a headlining tour; I’ve been on a lot of support slots and a lot with Brett," Davidson said.
"I’ve developed a pretty good fan base out there. I’d really like to continue to release music and hopefully get another gold record, another top 10 and really set myself up so I can go out on my own two feet, bring in my fans and do my show.”
