DIDSBURY - For the third straight year, film crews will be descending on Didsbury to film the popular television series Wynonna Earp.
The supernatural western-style show, which is filming its third season this summer, appears on Space channel and Netflix.
Crews will be filming on 20th Street all day on May 3 from approximately 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Twentieth Street will be closed to vehicle traffic between 20th Avenue and 17th Avenue during these hours, said Allison Baker, director of production for IDW Entertainment. Businesses will be open as usual and accessible via sidewalks.
"The public may be asked to wait momentarily while the actual filming takes place," said Baker. "Easily identified production representatives will be on site to assist in the flow of the public entering and exiting businesses.
"The parking lot at the east end of 19th Avenue (north of the train station) will be kept available for public parking, to aid in access to local businesses along 20th Street."
Didsbury mayor Rhonda Hunter said that it's great to see the film crews from Wynonna Earp return to town.
"The town welcomes any and all regular and new visitors/companies to our great community, for whatever reason...visiting, shopping, doing business," said Hunter. "In the case of Wynonna Earp, we are appreciative and supportive of the fact that the company recognizes that Didsbury has the great backgrounds and structures that the Wynonna Earp series needs to film their scenes. Any positive exposure of our community is always a plus for Didsbury."
As for any disruptions and inconveniences, Hunter said the town has worked closely with the chamber of commerce to address concerns from the public and businesses as best they can.
"The intent is to acknowledge that such disruptions, for which businesses are or can be compensated by the company, lead to significant economic benefits for our town," she said. "We work in collaborative effort with all town businesses to work efficiently and effectively with our filming visitors."
