Mountain View County council has set aside $100,000 to cover the cost of completing the review of the Municipal Development Plan.Administration had recommended on Wednesday that council allocate $50,000 for the review, but Div. 1 Coun. Kevin Good suggested doubling the figure, so that further requests won't have to be made. The $50,000 figure “seems awful tight,” Good said.Presenting the request to council, interim planning director John Rusling said the $125,000 budgeted in 2011 for the MDP review had been spent last year and only $5,000 was budgeted for 2012.“The original terms of reference describe this project as a package of amendments to our MDP,” Rusling said. “The project as it has evolved is more comprehensive – in fact, a new MDP is under preparation.”Rusling recommended $50,000 as “a more appropriate figure” to complete the work.“The original terms of references called for public open houses in mid-late November, first reading in late February, and a public hearing in March. Given the range of changes and the comments received, the dates for adoption need to be extended,” Rusling wrote in his report to council.“While council is presently meeting with our urban neighbours, any additional consultations have not been determined.”Addressing outstanding issues with the county's urban neighbours was one of four areas of the MDP review identified by the consultant as needing continued work.
