INNISFAIL – Advance polls begin today.
The 2019 Alberta election advance polls run in four locations, including Innisfail, Sylvan Lake, Delburne and Penhold from April 9 to 13.
“From Tuesday to Saturday, April 9th through the 13th the polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.,” said Carla Gabert, returning officer for Innisfail-Sylvan Lake.
Several advance poll locations are open on different days, noted Gabert.
Advance polls in Innisfail will be located at the returning office in the Henday Mall and in Sylvan Lake in the multipurpose room at the Nextsource Centre. They will run every day from April 9 to 13, while advance polls in Delburne will run only on two days, April 9 and 13 at the Seniors’ Drop-in Centre. Advance polls in Penhold will run for just one day on April 12 at the Penhold Regional Multiplex.
“Something that’s new this year is vote anywhere. Anywhere in the province, you can vote wherever you happen to be that day,” explained Gabert, noting the new feature is limited to advance polls. “Vote anywhere is just during the advance polls from April 9th to 13th. On April 16th, you need to go to the correct polls (in your riding) to vote.”
Gabert said they recommend voters bring proper identification, such as a driver’s licence, with their name and address.
There was an all-candidates forum last night (April 8) in Innisfail, and Penhold is hosting a forum tomorrow (April 10) at the public library inside the multiplex. The forum begins at 6 p.m.
