Aerial photography project approved

Mountain View County (MVC) council has approved an aerial photography project that would see photos taken across the county and could include participation from neighbouring municipalities.

Mountain View County (MVC) council has approved an aerial photography project that would see photos taken across the county and could include participation from neighbouring municipalities.

The move came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

Councillors passed a motion approving the project in cooperation with Kneehill County using Tarin Resource Services Ltd., and further that the project may include other partners, including the towns and village within the county borders.

The $60,000 budget for the project has already been approved. Cooperating with Kneehill will reduce the overall cost to MVC by $7,000.

"Urban municipalities within our boundaries have expressed interest in purchasing our orthophotos (aerial photos)," administration said in a briefing note to council.

"We would provide each interested town with orthophotography covering the town and surrounding intermunicipal development plan areas.

"The cost would be based on the total cost of the project and the area provided relative to the total area of the county. By this method, each of the towns would be provided orthophotography for a cost of around $650."

Since the Village of Cremona is smaller than the towns, its cost would be about $130.

"Precise costs would be calculated based on actual project costs prior to delivery," the note stated.

Following the vote on the matter, Deputy Reeve Angela Aalbers, "I think this is great and would be great to get the towns involved as well."

Meanwhile, council has passed a motion authorizing the Cremona Community Engagement Site (CCES) to be covered under the county's insurance.

The move also came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

In a letter to council, site coordinator Jan Shand said the society believed that it was covered under the Cremona school's insurance.

"The society has been operating under the assumption that we were insured by the school division," said Shand. "This is not the case. We have been purchasing inventory to aid the community educational programs and currently have a $35,000 inventory onsite."

The CCES is a registered not-for-profit society that provides onsite learning and support in the community, council heard.

"We are situated in the Cremona School. The site has been operational since 2009 and is the only one still active in a school setting," she said.

The site is governed by a 12 per cent advisory board and employs two part-time coordinators.

"I think this is great and would be great to get the towns involved as well."
