Agriculture service board approves project funding

The Mountain View County agriculture service board has approved tentative funding totalling $26,782.50 for community projects. The approvals came during the board's recent regularly scheduled meeting.

The Bergen Institute for Agriculture and the Arts will receive $2,200; the Carstairs and District 4-H Show and Sale will receive $500; the Cremona 4-H Club will receive $400; and Didsbury Agricultural Society will receive $6,000.

The Olds Agriculture Society-Youth Development Fund will receive $10,000; the Sundre 4-H Multi-Club will receive $200; the Sundre Agricultural Society will receive $2,282.50; the Sundre Rodeo and Race Association will receive $3,700; and the West Carstairs 4-H Beef Club will receive $1,000.

In its funding application, the Bergen Institute said, in part, that it “continues to support new and existing projects that enhance the Bergen community and make the area more attractive for visitors. We are the supervisor of the Bergen Farmers' Market, providing subsidized printing services to the Bergen News, and we organize the annual – and very successful – Feast of Bergen. Future plans include live summer music at the Bergen hall, and further discussions regarding development of a local trail systems in Bergen.”

In its funding application, the Carstairs and District 4-H said the 73rd annual show and sale will be held on May 24.

In its funding application, Cremona 4-H Club officials said the funds will be used to send members to leadership camps.

In its funding application, the Didsbury Agricultural Society said, in part that “the existing overhead doors have become very difficult to impossible to raise due to the water damage We have gotten quotes to remove the existing doors and install new ones.”

In its funding application, the Sundre 4-H Multi Club said, “We are organizing a judging for our club in which members will be judging livestock and livestock related items. We have 21 members taking part. Judging is one of the most important skills not only for 4-H but also in life.”

In its funding application, the Sundre and District Agricultural Society said funds will be used for the ATV Safety Day event on May 7.

“Courses will cover ATV safety both for the farm and recreational use and be open to all youth in Mountain View County,” officials said.

In its funding application, the Sundre Rodeo and Race Association said, “We want to upgrade an existing infield grandstand to accommodate better viewing and better access for handicapped patrons. We are asking for assistance in funding the wheel chair ramp costs.”

The funding must still be approved by Mountain View County through its 2016 operating budget, which is still being deliberated.
