The recent annual general meeting of the Legacy Land Trust Society went very well, with a record attendance of about 60 people.

It was the kickoff to our fifth year as a non-profit society.

The successes of the past five years were celebrated by commending all in attendance – as well as those who couldn't be there – for their support through attending events, sharing our news with others, donations of time, funds, land, and commitment to land stewardship and conservation.

We then reviewed some highlights of the last five years, such as the completion of two conservation easements of about 780 acres, a variety of workshops held about the importance of pollinators, heritage landscapes, wildlife corridors, how conservation and estate and succession fit together, and water quality, silent auctions to raise funds.

Other projects included bluebird and nature walks, the annual nature calendar sale, the publication of a conservation easement guide for landowners, and the launch of the Water Quality and You program which links land use and water health.

We also talked about what is coming -- another 1,000 acres of conservation projects are already funded and being worked on, another 500 acres of projects that require fundraising, and a new and improved communications program.

Kudos were given to a few people whose terms are complete: Tammy Mather as executive director and Wayne Notley, Maureen Worobetz, George Green and Sarah Leach as board members. Three new board members were welcomed. They are Tony Martens, Sue de Caen, and Greg Chernoff.
