DIDSBURY - Twelve competitors participated in the recent Didsbury Ag Society's fifth annual Antique Tractor Olympics at the society's grounds.
The event featured 10 different games pitting tractor operators against each other in events such as the barrel roll, chain lay, dunk the chicken, seed the corn and ring the pylon.
Organizer Cliff Scott said the event went well although the crowds weren't as big as he hoped.
"It went very well," said Scott. "The operators had fun and that's what I put it on for. We had the perfect amount of tractors. We did a lot of games. We had people from Olds, Cremona, Carstairs, Didsbury. We had some visitors from Stettler to see what it was like. It wasn't the crowd I was hoping for to watch it but we had the right number of tractors. I did it for the people running the tractors.
"I've found over the years a pile of people out there who have these antique tractors who won't put them in a pull because they're scared they'll break down but they'd love to run them. This gives them an opportunity to play."
Scott said all the money raised at the Tractor Olympics goes to Thunder on the Prairies, which is the fireworks show on the Friday night of the annual Didsbury Fair & Rodeo.
The ag society also puts on an August tractor pull on rodeo weekend. The proceeds there go to help the cancer foundation.
"It's a fun pull – just for bragging rights," he said.
The First Alberta 2-Cylinder Club also operates tractor pulls including an event at the Didsbury ag society grounds on June 9 and 10.
