About 35 residents of all ages attended the recent recognition night event in Cremona featuring author Jan Truss and a student art show.

Truss has written books in several different languages and has been published all over the world.

She was the first winner of the Search for a New Alberta Novelist competition in 1974, for her book Bird at the Window, which was started in Cremona.

She is also the recipient of the Ruth Schwartz Award for her book Jasmin.

She has been published in Chatelaine and Redbook, has published poetry, written many plays and even an opera.

She rose to the occasion, delighting the audience with humour and insights. She was happy to answer questions and sign books. She spoke about the construction of the amphitheatre, our education system, how she came to write as well as touching on many other subjects.

The Cremona students presented beautiful artwork, with the idea that great works of art don’t have to cost anything to make. They used newspaper, paint, markers and a lot of imagination.

The artwork was set up in the library and enjoyed by those that attended.
