CARSTAIRS - The town could be using an automated voting system in the upcoming municipal election after council passed a motion (Bylaw No. 1050) at a recent meeting.

"In preparation for the election, if we choose to, we'll be able to use an automated tabulator or voting system in this year's election," said Shannon Allison, director of corporate and legislative services for the town.

"We haven't determined if we're going to, but we're required to pass a bylaw by June 30."

Allison said the town has not used an automated voting system before and will need to do a cost- benefit analysis before deciding.

In other council news, the Town of Carstairs will continue to use the banking services of ATB.

"We had a request for decision," said Allison. "A few months ago we put out a request for proposal out for banking and investment services. We will be staying with our existing financial institution which is ATB."

The Strategic Planning and Corporate Affairs Committee recommended continuing with ATB to council.

The town awarded the municipal improvements program for 2017 to LBCO.

"Every year we have our street improvement programs or municipal improvements programs," she said. "The tender came back and the contract was awarded."
