Red Deer County council has hired Border Paving for a three-year contract to provide maintenance and new construction for the county's local roads.Border Paving will receive $4,554,600 for their work between 2011 and 2013.The company was one of three that submitted quotes. Central City Asphalt and Precision Surfacing also applied.Border Paving was council's choice in the previous three-year contract that just ended. Border Paving's quote was 7.8 per cent lower than what it charged in the previous contract. Reasons given for the decrease were the state of the economy, and 2011 prices for projects dropping 12.4 per cent. The contract also allows the county, at its discretion, to hire Border Paving for an additional two years after the contract expires.Council also selected A & J Construction Inc. for gravel loading and hauling within the county for a three-year period, with an option for a two-year extension. The Edmonton-based company was chosen over Pidherney's Trucking, a company hired by the county for the previous three years.A & J submitted rates of $2,091,000 compared to Pidherney's $2,302,625 and Foran Equipment's $4,338, 589.50.
