Repairs complete - for now

DIDSBURY - The temporary bridge heading into Didsbury on Highway 582 is now open after crews repaired some of the large potholes recently with recycled asphalt and concrete material. Back in October, the bridge was found to be damaged and was closed to all traffic to allow crews to put in a two-lane detour road with a temporary bridge.

Due to heavy traffic, warmer temperatures and freezing and thawing, the roads leading to and from the temporary bridge had become full of large potholes, which were recently repaired.

"With this minor maintenance, it should last until all the frost is out of the ground and we can pave it once asphalt plants are operating in the area," said Donald Saunders, bridge manager for Alberta Transportation. "With the late spring, we anticipate paving will be possible around late May or early June."

The replacement bridge is still on track to be completed in the late summer or early fall, said Saunders.
