DIDSBURY - A local resident will now be able to access her home much easier thanks to the help of a Didsbury business owner.

When Lowell Grasse of Grasse Lumber in Didsbury heard that Laura Fitchett, who rides a scooter due to spinal issues, wasn't able to easily get to her house he decided to do something about it.

Grasse donated his time and lumber to build Fitchett a ramp to the front door of her house.

Also helping out with donations were Didsbury's DCM Homes by Design, which drilled holes for posts, and Didsbury's Altamix Concrete, which donated the concrete.

"I wanted to do it for Laura so she can come and go with her scooter without having to manoeuvre the stairs," said Grasse.

Fitchett was thrilled when she found out that Grasse was going to put in a ramp to help her.

"I was shocked and super happy to find out they were nice enough to donate their wood and time to come build a ramp for me," she said. "It was really hard for me to get up the stairs here especially with winter coming and the snow."

Grasse said the motto of the lumber store is Helping you Build your Life, so building a ramp for someone just fit with that.

"This fits in to what we do," he said. "We don't want to just sell lumber. We want to help the community and help our customers. When we see a need we want to help out."
