DIDSBURY - The Didsbury Car Club had a very strong showing at the recent World of Wheels event at the BMO Centre in Calgary.

The World of Wheels is one of the biggest vehicle shows in Western Canada.

Club members won a number of top awards and the club itself won first place for outstanding club display.

Club president Dana Munn said the event is always a great place to promote the club and the town.

It was great to be chosen as the top club booth over clubs from much bigger centres, he said.

"It was quite an honour," said Munn. "World of Wheels is a great way to get people interested in Didsbury and what we have to offer."

The club's booth featured five cars and a motorcycle as well as a live rockabilly band. The theme for the booth was drag racing and the whole booth was set up to represent an old school drag race.

“We wanted to really show the automotive community what the Didsbury Car Club has to offer and showcase our great events such as the Fuel-A-Palooza Show ‘n Shine weekend and the Suicide Awareness Cruze,” said vice-president Joe Cooper.

Cooper said that the three-piece rockabilly band brought a fair number of attendees to the booth.

He added that many people came out to the booth to hear about the work the club does with suicide prevention and mental health.

“Many people felt it comforting to be able to share their mental health stories as well as how suicide has affected their lives,” he said.

Individual club winners included: Flyn Skot, who won first place for his 1971 Corvette Stingray LT-1; Dan Wiebe, 2nd place, 2017 Dodge Challenger T/A; Chris Overwater, class award, 1972 Chevrolet Cutlass 442; Kevin Beach, class award, 1966 Acadian; Stan Konschuh, class award, Plymouth Roadrunner; and Brian Hartman, class award, 2012 Confederate Hellcat X132 motorcycle.
