CARSTAIRS - Officials with Carstairs Community Chest presented charities supported in 2019 with $7,000 cheques at a ceremony at the town office on Sept. 11.

Most of the community chest board and a number of canvassers attended the presentation.

In all, $77,000 was handed out, and each attending charity gave a brief summary of its purpose.

All of the charities expressed their great appreciation and excitement to the people of Carstairs for making these funds available through the efforts of community chest canvassers and organizers.

Vice-president Don James expressed the need for younger canvassers to step up and canvass their own streets in order to carry on this worthwhile cause. Anyone interested can call a board member before the annual meeting next Feb. 4 at the town office.

Charities receiving funds were the Hugh Sutherland School breakfast program, school toast program, Mountain View Food Bank, Mount View Special Riding Association, Horizon School, Habitat for Humanity, Rosebud Health Foundation, Central Alberta Women's Shelter, Chinook Arch Victim's Services, the Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre, the Salvation Army, and STARS.
