CARSTAIRS – Winterfest is coming up and this year the event is combining with Family Day for an extra special time.

Committee member and councillor Al Gil told the Gazette that he expects a great family fun time for this year's Family Day Winterfest, which takes place on Feb. 10 at the Carstairs Community Hall.

The fun starts at 9:30 a.m. and is expected to wrap up at around 3 p.m.

Gil said this is the third year for the winter festival, which was formerly known as winter carnival. He said the town decided to combine the festival with family day since it was only nine days away. There are plenty of fun activities planned both in the hall and outside.

"We have indoor events with the different relays including the Firemen's bunker relay," he said. "That's where they put on the bunker gear and race to the other end and switch over back and forth. We have other indoor games too. Outside we're going to have wagon rides with a two-horse team."

Also going on outside will be the nail drive, tobogganing, snowshoeing, smoosh boards and more.

"There will be a variety of things going on," he said. "The Elks will be sponsoring and running the kitchen with hotdogs and such."
