“Authentic” looks are being sought at an open casting call for a new Netflix series that will start filming in the Calgary area this spring.
Keep Alberta Rolling said on social media that the casting call is for The Abandons, a western series set in the 1850s. It is open to men, women and children of all ethnicities from eight to 80 years old.
“We are looking for authentic-looks, unique character faces, hard-working types, blue collar looks, blacksmiths, rancher types, labourer types, butchers, upscale affluent looks and amputees,” the post said.
Netflix said the series is about a group of renegade families that live on the fringes of society in mid-1800s Oregon who work together to fight corruption and save their land.
Gillian Anderson, of The Crown and The X-Files fame, and Lena Headey, of Game of Thrones, are among the stars in the series.
The in-person casting call is in Calgary on April 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Double Tree by Hilton Calgary North at 2120 16 Ave. NE.
