CELTIC MUSIC MAKERS – Members of the Cochrane Pipe Band Society perform during the 21st annual Water Valley Celtic Festival on June 15.

Almost 800 people attended the 21st annual Water Valley Celtic Festival on June 18, representing a marked increase over last year’s total, say officials.

“We had about 75 more people this year than last year,” said festival chairperson Elly VandenEnden. “The venues were pretty much filled up. Overall people were happy so we are happy. The performances were really good.”

The festival enjoyed warm and mostly sunny conditions. Performances took place in venues throughout the community.

“It was a very sunny day, both weather-wise and for the performers and guests,” she said.

Featuring more than 100 musical groups and individual performers, the festival was only made possible by the efforts of more than 100 volunteers, she said.

“The volunteers were very busy setting up, working at the festival, and tearing down afterwards,” she said.

This year’s festival featured, for the first time, performances in the new Water Valley Community Hall. VandenEnden says performers and audience members seemed equally pleased with the new facility.

The total revenues and expenses will be known in a couple of weeks, she said.

“We ended up in the green, and that’s always good,” she said.
