A significant change in weather is coming this week, with cooler temperatures and 15 to 25 centimetres (cm) of snow possible between Tuesday and Friday, according to Environment Canada.
The federal agency issued a special weather statement Monday for the Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds - Sundre area as well as for the Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail - Stettler area.
On Tuesday, a cold front sweeping south through Alberta will bring temperatures down to below zero, the Environment Canada weather statement for the areas say.
Snowfall is forecasted for parts of western and southern Alberta Tuesday evening, intensifying on Wednesday and continuing until early Friday morning.
"Over 48 hours, snowfall totals of 15 to 25 cm are expected for parts of western and southern Alberta. Higher amounts are possible over the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Snowfall warnings may be required for some regions. Monitor updated forecasts for details specific to your location," concluded the special weather statements.
