DIDSBURY - A pair of 17-year-olds are facing numerous charges after a police chase from Didsbury to Innisfail on March 15. The pursuit included the ramming of a police cruiser by a suspected stolen truck being driven by one of the accused.
"On March 15 at approximately 8 p.m., members from the Didsbury RCMP attempted a traffic stop with a suspected stolen truck," said Cpl. Curtis Peters, RCMP media relations. "The driver of the truck allegedly rammed the police cruiser and pushed it out of the way, almost hitting another police cruiser in the process. Didsbury RCMP pursued the suspect vehicle to the Town of Innisfail where the two occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot."
With the help of Olds RCMP, Innisfail RCMP, Innisfail Traffic Services and Red Deer RCMP Police Dog Services, two suspects were taken into custody, said Peters.
One 17-year-old male, whose name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces nine charges including: assault on a police officer with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and resisting arrest.
The passenger, a 17-year-old female, who also can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces five charges: possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, possession of break-in tools, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of cocaine.
Both of the accused have been released from custody. The male is scheduled to appear on March 26 and the female on April 30, both in Didsbury provincial court.
Didsbury RCMP are continuing to investigate and are reminding residents that the public plays a vital role in crime reduction.
"Residents are encouraged to be observant and call police immediately if you spot something or someone suspicious," said Peters.
