DIDSBURY - Town council gave final reading to both Bylaw 2016-09 Municipal Development Plan Amendment and Bylaw 2016-10 during the recent regular town council meeting.

The bylaws allow for the parcel of land at 1500 23rd St. to be redesignated from (IS) Institutional to (R2) General Residential.

Background information presented to council states that the parcel of land is a single detached residential home that has been utilized as a manse (church-owned house) for the acting minister of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

It is now common for this dwelling to no longer be required for the church, so the property owner would like to redesignate the parcel to facilitate for the eventual sale of the parcel.

SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING APPROVED

In other council news, councillors approved scholarship funding for 2016 summer students employed by the town.

In all there were 15 students eligible including eight post-secondary students and seven high school students. The students worked in the following departments: parks, DOSCA/summer fun, aquatics, customer service representative and arena.

The total cost of the scholarships is $6,000 with the funds coming from within each department. The amount of scholarship money each student receives is dependent on the number of hours worked as well as year of employment with the Town of Didsbury.
