Two confirmed cases of clubroot have been found in Red Deer County so far this year, according to Art Preachuk, agriculture fieldman for the county.“We do have two confirmed cases of clubroot in Red Deer County to date,” said Preachuk. “One east of (QEII) and one west, with three more samples in the lab waiting for confirmation.”He said that when a field does test positive for the disease, adjacent landowners are notified, and the landowner or manager is issued a pest notice.“Our scouting of fields is about 50 per cent completed,” he noted, “and our goal is to inspect all fields seeded back to back, and then random sample five to 10 fields per township.”To emphasize the importance of scouting, he said, “At the end of this week or early next week, all grain and oilseed producers in the county will receive a letter and guide outlining scouting and sampling procedures, and links to videos and more info that can help them manage clubroot if it is detected.”Fortunately, Mountain View County has not seen any sign of the disease yet.Jane Fulton, agriculture fieldman for Mountain View County said “We haven't found any yet, but we haven't finished the inspections yet either.”- Kevin Vink
