Mountain View County's policies and priorities committee has made a motion recommending financial support of a new helipad at the Didsbury hospital.

During the March 5 committee meeting, members passed a motion recommending that county council approve $60,000 in funding to the Rosebud Health Foundation.

The money would be used towards the upgrading of the Didsbury helipad, with the county retaining the funds until required by the foundation for the project.

The estimated costs of the helipad are $500,000, foundation spokesperson Clem Kuelker told the committee.

The Town of Didsbury and the Town of Carstairs have also recently promised funding for the helipad project, he said.

The existing helipad at the hospital was closed by Transport Canada four years ago for safety reasons, he said.

“We hope with all this help a new helipad will become a reality within about two years,” he said.

Mountain View County council could vote on the committee's recommendation as early at the March 12 regularly scheduled council meeting.
