The Mountain View County (MVC) policies and priorities committee has been given an update on the activities of the Parkland Airshed Management Zone (PAMZ). The review came during the committee's recent regularly scheduled meeting in council chambers.

PAMZ executive director Kevin Warren spoke with the committee about some of the organization's recent projects and its future plans.

The organization monitors air quality across West Central Alberta, including in Mountain View County.

Formed in 1997, PAMZ is funded in part through contributions from area municipalities, including MVC. The county's membership fee in 2018 is $4,642.

It operates five permanent passive monitoring sites in the county, as well as 11 temporary monitoring locations, including in three towns in the county.

The 2018 monitoring program will include monitoring air quality during a period of intensive gravel pit activity west of Sundre during the summer months, he said.

The 2018 budget calls for spending $508,937 on the monitoring program, $190,000 for management and administration and $20,000 on capital replacement fund.
