Committee recommends budget acceptance

The Mountain View County policies and priorities committee, made up of county councillors, has passed a motion recommending that council approve the 2017 projects budget totalling $25.9 million.

The Mountain View County policies and priorities committee, made up of county councillors, has passed a motion recommending that council approve the 2017 projects budget totalling $25.9 million.

The move came during the commission's recent regularly scheduled meeting.

The budget is comprised of $23.8 million of capital projects and $2 million of operating projects.

The projects were presented by the departments of corporate services, planning and development, legislative, community and agricultural services, and operational services.

Capital projects put forward under the budget include the following: Rge. Rd. 52 bridge and road construction at cost of $4.2 million, annual re-chip program at cost of $2.4 million; equipment replacement at a cost of $2.4 million; re-gravelling program at cost of $1.8 million.

Operating projects put forward under the budget include fire department grants of $843,000, FCSS grant transfers to urban centres of $212,000, and the 2017 annual bridge maintenance of $121,500.

Coun. Jeremy Sayer did not attend the Jan. 4 committee meeting.

The budget could come before council for a vote at this week's Jan. 11 meeting.
