More than 450 people have attended a charity fundraising event at the Madden Hall in support of an injured neighbour and friend.

Jeff Fenton, 53, was seriously hurt in a fall from scaffolding on March 31 on a property in the Dogpound-Cremona area. He received head and other injuries and has been hospitalized since the fall.

More than 225 items were donated by individuals and companies for the live and silent auctions.

Among the items sold at the live auction was an apple pie donated by the Bottrel Busy Beavers, which went for more than $2,700.

People from across the region attended the June 25 fundraiser, with other donations coming in from Saskatchewan, B.C., and across Alberta.

Although Fenton himself could not attend the June 25 event, his wife Brenda and other family members were in attendance.

“It was an emotional night and one to remember forever,” Jeff's mother Joanne said in a Facebook post. “Our community sets an example for all the rest and we are so fortunate to live here. Jeff is getting a little better each day, but has a long road ahead. He will be in hospital for some time yet.”

Although officials have not released a grand total raised at the June 25 event, all proceeds will be going into a trust fund set up in Fenton's name at Mountain View Credit Union branches, said Melisa Luft, who co-organized the June 25 event.

She worked on the project with her husband Jeff, a longtime friend of Jeff Fenton.

The trust fund will remain open until the end of August.
