CARSTAIRS - At the regular council meeting on Feb. 13, council passed second reading of a bylaw (1045) that would redesignate 0.809 hectares of land on 10th Avenue from residential 1 (R1) - low density single detached to residential 3 (R1) - medium density attached dwelling.

Before the voting, council heard a presentation from consultant Sarah Nielsen on the project.

"Council would like to see a site design layout prior to going to third and final reading," said CAO Carl McDonnell. "We'll meet with the applicant and follow that up."

McDonnell said the site design would have to show how everything would fit.

"It's higher density housing," he said. "You have to show you'll have enough parking, park area, roadways and things like that. That's what they're looking at to make sure it all fits."

During question period, council heard from Don James of the Carstairs Community Chest who came forward.

"They're short volunteers to go door to door in April," said McDonnell. "He talked about the need for more volunteers and where the money raised goes and how it would be a problem (for the groups they help) with a decrease in revenue."

The town received three bids for the fire truck it is selling. The fire truck will bring in $43,900.

"Council approved selling it to the highest bidder," said McDonnell.
