Mountain View County council has approved funding towards the purchase of a pumper vehicle for the Didsbury fire department. The move came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

The county will contribute $387,500 for the purchase under the fire services sub-agreement between MVC and the Town of Didsbury.

The total cost of the pumper is estimated to be $775,000, with the municipalities splitting the costs 50-50.

In a briefing note to council, the Town of Didsbury said, in part, that the pumper is a “purpose build truck designed to carry water and deliver fire suppression capabilities. It is used for all purposes in the fire industry.

“For example, Didsbury fire uses the engine for motor vehicle collisions, vehicle or equipment fires, structure fires, grass and wildland fires, as well as hazmat and other uses.”

The new vehicle will be placed in front-line service with the department.

Meanwhile, council has agreed to add the Bearberry Wapitana Society and the Bearberry Hall to its liability and property insurance policy.

The move also came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

“They will require to be insured for $800,000 for buildings, $90,000 for contents, and $10,000 for rental income,” administration said in a briefing note to council.
