DIDSBURY -- The Didsbury Memorial Complex arena will soon be getting its roof fixed.

At their regular council meeting on March 12, Didsbury councillors approved the roof project tender to go to Cooper Roofing for $167,175.

The project plans are for repairs to the metal roofing, pressurized cleaning and a full coating application of synthetic rubber compound to the entire roof.

The same project was successfully completed on the curling rink roof last spring.

In all, the town received proposals from 22 companies ranging from $53,000 to $564,450.

In information provided to council by administration, Nicole Aasen, manager of community services stated: "The proposal from Cooper Roofing met all of the town's requirements under its request for proposal including the utilization of the RC2000 product that has been around for 40 years and has proven to be effective on our own facility, and, at completion of the project, offers the same 10-year warranty.

"Other benefits to using Cooper Roofing include: warranty for both roof systems being offered by one supplier; our experience with their responsiveness when a warranty issue on the curling rink roof occurred; their longevity in the roofing industry (51 years); and the option of mobilization savings when a recoating is required, as both roofs could be done at once."

Aasen told the Gazette that work on the roof is scheduled to begin as soon as possible but will be based on the weather conditions.

"Ideally, work will be completed during April and May this year," she said. "The work will not affect our users."
