Mountain View County has been given an update on 2018 cemetery grant allocations approved for local facilities.

The review came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

The grants were earlier reviewed and approved by the Community Services Grant Review Committee, totalling $13,550.

The county provides financial assistance to registered cemetery organizations within the geographical boundary of the municipality for operating and/or improvements and enhancements.

“Grants may be used for general operational expenses such as grass cutting and general maintenance,” administration said in a briefing note to council. “Operating costs would only be approved to cemetery boards using the services of a yard care maintenance company.

“Approved funding may also be used for fixed outdoor assets such as benches, signage, mapping, garbage and recycling collection, storage shed, etc., that would enhance the ambiance of the cemetery. Special project requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.”

Cemeteries receiving funding include Bergen, Bergthal, Big Prairie, Carstairs, Cremona, Didsbury, Eagle Hill, Eagle Valley, Hainstock, Harmattan, Mayton, Olds, Redeemer Lutheran, Sundre and Westcott.

Council passed a motion to receive the report as information.
