Mountain View County council has reviewed proposed 2017 capital projects for the municipality. The review came during a recent special council meeting.

The projects have been presented by the departments of corporate services, planning and development, legislative, community and agricultural services, and operational services.

Projects put forward by planning and development services include the following:

• $80,000 for the South Carstairs economic growth node area structure plan (ASP) review. “A review of this plan is lead by a steering committee that was appointed in April 2016 and is anticipated to conclude in 2017. ISL Engineering and Land Services Ltd. are the engineering consultants to review servicing options. The budget dollars are for community engagement and the engineering consultancy fees,” said administration.

• $11,400 for the Highway 2/27 area structure plan review. “The ASP has been on hold since May 2014 pending the legal matter (and) the development of the sub-agreement on joint growth management as identified in the master agreement for intermunicipal cooperation. The remaining amount from the original budget is to cover consultancy cost.”

• $10,000 for the Eagle Valley area structure plan review.

“A review of this plan is lead by a steering committee that was appointed by council in August 2016 and is anticipated to conclude in the first half of 2017. No consultants will be used. The budget dollars are for community engagement only.”

• $10,000 for the South McDougal Flats ASP review.

Projects put forward by corporate services include the following:

• $100,000 for council chamber audio-visual upgrades.

“The conference system has issues with buttons not working when pushed to turn on the mics. All efforts will be made to extend the service life of the asset. Should this not be possible the project will go ahead,” administration said.

• $60,000 for the evaluation of existing building assets to determine replacement values and remaining usable life for county owned buildings.

None of the projects have been approved by council.

The proposed capital budget could come before councillors at the December policies and priorities committee meeting.
