Mountain View County has accepted Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) funding allocations totalling $455,819 to area community groups and organizations.

The move came during the Feb. 13 regularly scheduled council meeting following the approval of the 2019 allocations by the Community Services Grant Committee on Feb. 4.

FCSS is a partnership between the provincial government and participating municipalities, with the municipalities picking up 20 per cent of the cost.

“Under the program, communities design and deliver social programs that are preventative in nature, to promote and enhance well-being among individuals, families and communities,” administration said in a briefing note to council.

“The programs developed are intended to help individuals within their communities to adopt healthy lifestyles, thereby improving the quality of life and building the capacity to prevent and/or deal with crisis situations should they arise.”

As per the 2019 FCSS allocation with its urban partners, the county’s contribution totals $232,258 or $17 per capita.

The county’s contribution to Carstairs FCSS will be $29,036, to Cremona $45,152, Didsbury $40,698, Olds $48,365 and Sundre $59,007.

The organization grant allocations include the following:

Other groups receiving funding include Mountain View Communities Adult Learning Society ($2,000); Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society ($10,000), Mountain View Parent Link Centre ($1,500); Mountain View Parent Link Centre rural outreach ($5,000); Olds and District Hospice Society ($4,000); Shalom Counselling Centre of Alberta ($1,800); Sundre and District Nutrition for Learning Society ($1,500), Town of Didsbury Seniors Friends and Fun program ($4,300).

“Mountain View County desires to have its residents make use of FCSS programs and services within the urban centres and contributes financial assistance annually to their FCSS program,” administration said.

“In turn, the urbans will provide FCSS programs and services for county residents to use the FCSS services within their boundaries at no additional cost to rural residents.”
