Mountain View County council approved about $122,000 in community grants last Wednesday.Under rural community hall grant funding, council approved $15,000 for L.B. Community Club, $11,091 for Westward Ho Hall, $9,600 for Bergen Community Association, $5,514 for Big Prairie Association, $5,000 for Lone Pine Hall, $4,500 for Harmattan Community Centre, $4,500 for Rosebud Community Hall, $3,988 for Rugby Hall, $3,500 for James River Community Association, $877 for Coburn Community Hall, and $525 for Cremona Community Hall.The 2012 rural community hall grant funding amounts, totalling just over $64,000 from a $70,000 budget, reflect the recommendations of the community services grant committee after review of the grant applications.Under public transportation and operating assistance grants, council approved the annual $4,500 STARS donation as well as $3,000 for each of the four Mountain View Seniors' Housing lodges (Aspen Ridge, Chinook Winds, Foothills and Mount View); $2,500 for seniors' clubs (Carstairs and District Half Century Association, Cremona Gold and Silver Travel, Didsbury and District Community Bus Association, Happy Trails Bus and Mountain View Choraliers); $2,500 for the Sundre Community Van Association and Tri-Community Transit; $2,200 for Olds and District Evergreen Club; $2,180 for Accredited Supports to the Community; and $1,620 for Alberta Health Services (Olds Hospital and Care Centre).The total transportation and operating assistance allocation and budget for 2012 is $40,000.With Bergen Rocks and the Strings and Keys Music Program withdrawing their applications for rural community grant funding, a total of nine organizations will receive funding. They include: Mountain View Music Festival – $5,000, Foothills Curling Club – $4,919, West Hope Historical Society – $3,400, Bergen News – $1,190, Country Drive – $1,000, Bergen Institute for Agriculture and the Arts – $950, St. George's Anglican Church – $522, Rosebud Run Dog Sled Society – $500, and Carstairs and District 4-H Show and Sale – $500.With $45,000 budgeted, the total rural community grant funding allocation for 2012 sits at just under $18,000.
