Young Mountain View County residents showcased their skills in the cattle ring recently, bringing home top awards from Summer Synergy.
Developed as a partnership between Olds Regional Exhibition (ORE), 4-H Alberta, the Calgary Stampede and Olds College, Summer Synergy is dedicated to the development of youth between the ages of nine and 21.
Stella Mader of the Carstairs area came out on top in Peewee Pursuit with her heifer Mader Sheila 39F taking the title of Champion Peewee Animal.
Mader Sheila 39F placed first in Class 1 -- 2018 Heifer Calf while Hawkin Mader’s Mader Opal 90F placed second.
Third place went to London Matthews of the Olds area for Riverstone Fairytale 51F.
Matthews also placed second in Class 3 -- 2018 Bull/Steer Class with Riverstone Free Agent.
In the Purebred Beef competition, Jared Couch of the Sundre area took a top Angus prize.
Couch’s animal, Prairie Side Millenium Mama 1E, was named Champion Black Angus and also claimed second in Class 1 -- Black Angus Heifer Calf.
Another of his animals, Reid Angus Millenium Mama 38B, placed third in Class 1 -- Black Angus Mature Cow/Calf.
Angeleah Couch from the Sundre area tied for third in Class 1 -- Black Angus Yearling Heifer with PrairieSide Barbara 2E.
And Olds’ Kayla Jones placed third in Class 11 -- Simmental Cow/Calf.
In the Commercial Beef competition, the Sundre area’s Alexis M. Couch and her animal Untouchable won the title of Champion MaineTainer Yearling. They also placed first in Class 9 -- MaineTainer Yearling Heifer.
The competitions were held July 9 to 13 at the ORE grounds in Olds.
