Mountain View County staff will research and review recommendations made following an information technology (IT) assessment of the county's operations.

The report on the review was presented to the policies and priorities committee on Dec. 3.

The review was conducted by Pacific Coast Information Systems, and included interviews with councillors and staff, and an analysis of the county's technology systems, including computers.

The review found that the county's IT infrastructure "aligns reasonably well with the size, complexity and needs of the organization," committee members heard, "and the majority of county stakeholders feel they are well-serviced by the county's IT department.

"The assessment identified several areas of weakness in operations, process, infrastructure and planning that were echoed in the input gathered from project participants.

"A refocusing of IT from technology-centric to customer-centric, and improving IT communications and collaboration with county departments and employees represents the most significant shift that is required from the county's current IT state."

Key recommendations coming out of the review included conducting an evaluation of all county systems and applications for "usefulness in support of business needs and user-friendliness in term of the ability of business users to interact effectively with the (county's) IT system" and "engage business users for regular feedback."

The policies and priorities committee passed a motion instructing administration to review the assessment report and "bring to council a draft of objectives and timelines for implementation."

The committee is made up of sitting county councillors.
