CREMONA - Cremona Minor Hockey recently celebrated a successful season with an award night celebrating all of the players and the success they had.
"We celebrated all of our young boys and girls that played on our five teams as well as the coaches and managers that volunteered to help make this year a huge success," said president Craig White. "The night was very special as each player received a trophy as a reminder of the past season."
The following day, the Cremona Cowboys took on the Nanton Palominos in the third and final game of the Central Alberta Hockey League's (CAHL) novice tier 4 championship at the Cremona Arena in front of a packed house.
"With the series tied 1-1, Cremona stormed out to a 2-0 lead after the first period and a 3-0 lead after the second period," said White. "Nanton fought hard and came back in the third but the Cowboys were able to hold on for a thrilling 5-4 victory to win the CAHL championship banner!"
White said that it was a great season for all the teams.
"We had two tyke teams, and a team in each of CAHL's novice, atom and peewee divisions," he said. "CMHA had a total of 33 tykes this year split between our initiation team where there were 18 players and our travel team, which had another 15 players."
The initiation team focused on skill development and saw great improvement from the beginning of the year, said White.
"Our travel team had a great, competitive season this year ending in the 2&27 year-end tournament in Didsbury," he said.
The Atom Cowboys also had a great season finishing second in the CAHL tier 5 north division before losing out in the final series against Airdrie.
The Pee Wee Cowboys missed the playoffs in the CAHL tier 5 north east division by a mere half point.
"Congratulations to all Cremona Cowboys on a great season and thank you to the many volunteers who coached, managed and looked after our young players this year," he said. "We look forward to an even more exciting 2017-18 season."
