CARSTAIRS - Around 400 people came out to partake in this year's Crazy Carstairs Christmas on Friday.  The event featured hayrides, photos with Santa at Co-op, fireworks and free hotdogs and hot chocolate provided by the Carstairs and Community Chamber of Commerce.

Rob Andrews, secretary of the chamber, which put on the event, said it all went very well.

"All the feedback we got was quite positive," said Andrews. "Everyone was very happy. The turnout was really good. The weather was a lot nicer than it has been in the last couple years so that definitely helped."

Andrews said there were many highlights including the fireworks, which were provided by the chamber and operated by the Carstairs Fire Department.

"Everyone was really impressed with the fireworks for sure," he said. "That was one of the highlights. Also, the town was able to get part of 10th Avenue blocked off. We had some firepits set up. Several people were saying it brought a friendly environment with people walking up and down the street."

Andrews said many of the downtown businesses stayed open late, until around 9 p.m.

"We also did a Carstairs business bingo in an effort to get people out to check out the stores and what they have to offer," he said. "We had about 20 businesses that were on our bingo cards. We're doing a draw on Wednesday with all the completed cards for some Carstairs gift cards."
