The Cremona Arena was filled to capacity on Saturday for the second annual fundraising hockey event.

Held to support planned renovations to the arena, more than $10,000 was brought in this year, say officials.

The tournament saw local firefighters play against local coaches in the main game, with 18 teams taking part in the earlier 3-on-3 tournament.

“The stands were packed all day,” said co-organizer Jenn Gunderson. “There was close to 300 people.  All proceeds go to our arena.”

Renovations planned include making the facility completely handicapped accessible, upgrading heating and plumbing systems, adding female dressing rooms and making improvements to the other dressing rooms, she said.

The arena is owned and operated by the Cremona and District Agricultural Society.

The exact amount raised is still to be determined, she said.
