Dogpound rodeo attracts 1,700

The 2013 Foothills Cowboys Association rodeo at Dogpound on July 17 attracted 1,700 contestants and fans – making it among the most successful years in the event's 108-year history.

“I felt our numbers were similar to our 100th anniversary year eight years ago, which was our best year for attendance,” said committee member and secretary Patricia McKean. “We had nice weather and that helped the attendance for sure this year.”

Tehiko Neill won the bullriding event with a 77 score. Cody Herrenan finished second with a 73 score, while Karson Collins and Brock Radford tied for third with 69 scores.

Cody and Dusty O'donnell won the team roping event with a time of 4.4 seconds. Devin Wigmyr and Clint Weston finished second with a 4.7-second time.

Matthew Mailer won the steer wrestling event with a 4.9-second time. Max Radford finished second with a 5.0 time, and Derric Laye finished third with a 5.5 time.

There was an extraordinary five-way tie in the bareback riding event, with Philippe Harvey, Pier-Anthony Boudreau, Spur Lacasse, B.J. Sheppard and Bruno Roby all finishing with 72 scores. Justin Myers finished second with a 70 score.

Jackson Laurie and Keenan Reinhardt tied for first with 73 scores. Paul Robinson finished second with a 71 score and Joel Waddell finished third with a 69 score.

James Gunsch and Deven Gerawatoski tied for first times of nine seconds. Jeff Heggie finished second with a 9.5 time.

Quiton Taylor won the boys steer riding event with a 75 score. Connor Faucher finished second with a 71 score, and Riley Gagnon took third with a 69 score.

During the ranch rodeo event on July 16, the Incredibles team of Dusty McKean, Sammy Hamilton, Brett Edge and Greg Tebd finished first.

The Big Hill Renegades team of Kevin Sammons, Jay Wildman, Lee Irving and Marlies Kuchner finished second, while the R. Haven's Cattle Co. team finished third and the Dog Pound Dogs finished fourth.
