About 17,000 fans and competitors attended the Dogpound Stampede rodeo on July 19 and 20.

Nice weather and some great competition made the 111th annual Foothills Cowboy Association rodeo a big hit again in 2016, said organizing committee member Patricia McKean.

Events this year included saddle bronc, bareback, bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping and boys steer riding.

McKean commended the more than 50 volunteers involved in this year's two-day rodeo.

“Without the volunteers there wouldn't be a rodeo,” said McKean. “We couldn't do it without them.”

Fans and competitors enjoyed hot, dry conditions on both days of the rodeo. Ranch rodeo events took place July 19, with the main rodeo going July 20.

In saddle bronc, Dawson Dahn and Wyatt Thurston tied for first and second with 72.5 scores, each taking home $365.75. Kole Ashbacher finished third with a 71.5 score.

Braden Dillman won the bareback event with a 77.5 score, taking home $285. Justin Myers finished second and Allen Fletcher finished third.

Colby Charteris won the bull riding event with a 72 score.

Blake Williamson won the calf roping event with an 8.7-second time, taking home $578.55. Bryce Kulbacki finished second and Justin Heggie finished third.

Jeff Heggie won the steer wrestling event with a 4.8-second time, taking home $385.70. Taylor Weinberger finished second and Riley Westhaver finished third.

Melissa Reinhardt and Chad Robinson won the team roping event with a 6.7-second time, taking home $1,405. Brent Keaveney and Sloan Smith finished second, while Nyle Clemmer and Gord Gulick finished third.

Grady Smeltzer won the boys steer riding event with a 73.5 score, taking home $206.63. Ian Big Tobacco finished second, while Quinten Taylor finished third.

McKean says plans are already in the works for the 112th annual Dogpound Stampede.
