DIDSBURY - Despite racking up an impressive 36 points against the defending Innisfail league champions, the Didsbury Dragons fell in the championship game of the Mountain View 9 Man Football Conference.

The Innisfail Cyclones pulled off the 59-39 win at home to claim another league title.

Dragons' head coach Mark Lefebvre said the team played well but couldn't stop the Cyclones from scoring.

"It was a heartbreaker for us," said Lefebvre. "We were starting to feel good. They scored on their first play on a long touchdown. We got the ball back and scored on our first play with a touchdown.

"We scored again and were up two touchdowns to one at the end of the first quarter and thinking we had a real good chance to win."

Lefebvre said the team continued to score but the Cyclones scored more.

"We didn't really have an answer for them on defence," he said. "That was the answer. You'd think if you'd scored 39 points you'd come away with the win but not in this case."

Lefebvre said the entire team played their hearts out. He singled out running back Brandon Rude for another strong performance.

"We had three players approached by a scout from the Calgary Colts junior football team and were invited to try out with them next year," he said.
